NEW YORKMay 10, 2023SiriusXM today announced a new docuseries Sounds Gay, an original podcast about queer music culture.

The new series, hosted by writer and producer Sarah Esocoff and produced by SiriusXM’s Stitcher Studios, tells the stories of queer people whose lives have been transformed by music. From a closeted Christian music star to a trans professional soprano, Esocoff dives into the stories of queer people whose lives have been transformed by music. It’s a narrative about the sounds that can define, unite and shape worlds.

Sounds Gay will be widely available on all podcast platforms, including Stitcher and the SXM App, beginning May 24, with new episodes every Wednesday through June. A trailer is available by clicking here.

"We didn’t want to tell queer stories that are only tragic or inspiring,” says Sarah Esocoff. “With Sounds Gay, we tunnel into queer music’s strange, dirty, and surprising underbelly. From a lesbian battle rap feud, to a wild night out in the Brooklyn trans punk scene, to an emo-inspired gender awakening, Sounds Gay celebrates the complicated and ever-changing world of queer music."

Sounds Gay is hosted and produced by Sarah Esocoff. Story editing is by James T. Green of Molten Heart. The consulting producer is Cass Adair. Additional editing is by Gianna Palmer. Original music is by Kris McCormick. Scoring and mixing is by Casey Holford. The program manager is Sam Termine. The executive producers are Sarah Bentley, Bill Crandall, Jen Derwin, Sarah Esocoff, Mike Spinella, and Kameel Stanley.

SXM Media, the advertising sales group of Sirius XM Holdings Inc., will have exclusive global ad sales rights for Sounds Gay.

Sounds Gay joins other documentary and narrative projects at Stitcher Studios, including Heaven’s Gate, the Unfinished series, Signal Award-winners Welcome to Provincetown and The Atlas Obscura Podcast, as well as the Webby-Award winning Toxic: The Britney Spears Story.
