SiriusXM will produce national radio broadcasts for NBA HBCU Classic live from Salt Lake City on Feb. 18 and the HBCU Legacy Bowl live from New Orleans on Feb. 25

NEW YORK – February 15, 2023 – SiriusXM will deliver listeners nationwide live coverage of February’s special Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) sporting events with live broadcasts of the NBA HBCU Classic basketball game on Feb. 18 and the HBCU Legacy Bowl football game on Feb. 25.

On Feb. 18, the NBA HBCU Classic tips off at 4 pm ET with a Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup between Grambling State University and Southern University at the University of Utah’s Jon M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City. The game, part of the NBA All-Star 2023 festivities, will air nationwide on SiriusXM NBA Radio (channel 86 in the car and on the SXM App at https://siriusxm.us/2nGWJYQ).

SiriusXM’s broadcast will feature veteran broadcaster Paul Jones as the play-by-play voice, NBA legend Eddie Johnson as the game analyst and former front office executive Amin Elhassan as the sideline reporter. Jones is the radio voice for the Toronto Raptors and Johnson is the color analyst for Phoenix Suns television broadcasts and hosts NBA Today weekday afternoons on SiriusXM NBA Radio. Elhassan held front office roles with the New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns before beginning his broadcasting career and hosts NBA Insiders Sundays on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

On Feb. 25, the HBCU Legacy Bowl, presented by the Black College Football Hall of Fame, kicks off at 4 pm ET in Yulman Stadium on the campus of Tulane University in New Orleans. The postseason all-star game will showcase the best NFL draft-eligible football players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities across America, and the game will air live on SiriusXM NFL Radio (channel 88 in the car and on the SXM App at https://siriusxm.us/2MhNr47), and SiriusXM College Sports Radio (channel 84 in the car and on the SXM App at https://siriusxm.us/CollegeSports).

Jackson State University broadcaster Rob Jay will be the play-by-play voice for the SiriusXM broadcast team, which will feature analysis by Jackson State University’s new head football coach T.C. Taylor and former NFL defensive end Anthony Herron. An hour-long pregame show hosted by Jay, Taylor and Herron will air from 3 to 4 pm ET leading into the game broadcast.

On Friday, Feb. 24, SiriusXM NFL Radio and SiriusXM College Sports Radio will present a special HBCU Legacy Bowl preview show with Jay and Herron hosting live at 7 pm ET. Throughout the year, SiriusXM subscribers can hear from Jay on SiriusXM College Sports Radio, Herron on SiriusXM Big Ten Radio.

The NBA HBCU Classic was developed by the NBA as part of its ongoing commitment to the HBCU community – specifically around professional development, career advancement and increased support and awareness for HBCU athletics and institutions.

The HBCU Legacy Bowl is part of the week-long celebration of Black culture and history, presented by the Black College Football Hall of Fame, to provide valuable exposure for HBCU students.
